Written Notes

  • Opening: Standing behind chair, with hoop leaning against the front of the chair
    • Take time to freestyle with figure 8 steps or hip circles or whatever feels good!
    • Pick up the hoop, either by sliding it up or by grabbing the top and flipping it up then down. Either way, you end with the hoop sitting in the seat of the chair.
    • Insert your right thumb into the hoop and turn so palm faces up, holding the hoop.
    • Do a linear isolation by rolling the hoop over the back of your hand or do an isopop as you step around to the front corner of the chair. You are still holding the hoop in your right hand.
    • Escalator down, catch in right hand, step out, pass the hoop behind your back while framing your booty.
    • Make your way to sit on the chair, facing towards your right (if sitting facing front on the chair). Hold the hoop in your left hand, then switch to the right hand as you sit down.
  • Seated section
    • While seated, straighten the left leg back to find a lunge position. Push that big toe into the ground, not the side or top of your foot. You will need to have almost all your weight on your right hip. Let your left hip lift off of the chair.
    • Sweep your left leg in and trap the hoop between your legs. To secure this leg trap, have one leg slightly more bent than the other. Whichever leg is more bent will push that knee across the midline of your body. If you need more security, you can cross your ankles, but that is harder to get out of.
    • Take your right hand around the back of the chair and hold onto the top side (same way you are facing). Left hand comes to the seat, wherever feels most secure.
    • Lift your legs and carefully slide your hips forward to lie on the chair. Left hand comes to the ground to support you.
    • Right hand reaches behind then through the hoop to grab and fold off. Other option is to just grab from the outside and lift. The hoop goes to the ground behind the chair.
  • Leg show time!
    • To get pretty leg waves, focus on leading with the backs of your knees. For bonus waves, shift your same side hip away as you lead with the knee. We only want to bicycle kick when we are getting up off the chair because it helps build momentum.
    • When you are ready, bicycle kick up to sit. Ideally, your right foot lands on the ground and the left leg crosses over. For a split second, your are seated.
    • Swap your hand positions, so left hand comes to the back of the chair, and right hand comes to the front corner of the seat.
    • Stand up and untwist! You pivot on the right foot to stand with hands on the chair.
  • Standing freestyle
    • Here you can do whatever feels sexy. Try the same moves that you did at the beginning, just bent over with your hands on the chair! (Or do something different.) In the video, I do some leg sweeps (like a sexy pawing horse) and a side V.
    • Whatever you do, face back and squat down to pickup the hoop. We want to spin the hoop overhead in lasso. I pick up with my left hand and swing the hoop up and in front of me to place it on my right.
  • Facing back
    • Left hand steadies the chair as you kick over and sit astride it. Keep doing lasso overhead. Freestyle here until you are ready to move on.
    • Grab the hoop with one or both hands and lower to encircle your waist and rest on your thighs.
    • Hold the top middle of the chair back and slide your hips as much into the space between the seat and the back as you can. Pull your knees towards your armpits as much as you can.
    • Straighten your legs to straddle. (Remember to press evenly through your toe point, aka avoid winging or sickling your foot!) You can do leg waves here if you want.
    • Right hand lets go, slides through the hoop and returns to the top middle of the chair back. Your hoop should now be under your left arm but on top of your right.
    • Left hand lets go, and you shift the hips to the left for your faux split (or real split if you are that flexy). Left hand can then grab the hoop and sexily lift it it off your body to place it on the floor in front of the chair. (After that, that hand can do whatever it wants….wink wink.)
    • To exit the split, reverse the steps. Left hand returns to the chair back, hips shift center, and knees bend.
    • To stand, you take your right hand to the front corner or leg (wherever feels stable) and the left hand to the outside of the left leg and swivel. Take your time and make sure you feel secure as you do this.
  • Closing
    • Walk around to the front of the chair, facing front. Sit down and open the legs in whatever way feels fun. I like to KAPOW them open, but I do not know the technical term for that. Make sure you are seated towards the front of the chair.
    • Reach down, pick up the hoop, and do a few isolations (half isolations or full, depending on your comfort level with that move).
    • When you are ready, place the hoop down and slide your legs together.
    • Place your hands behind you (I use the joints in the legs) and begin to lift your knees towards your chest. You can shift your hips more forward if that feels secure. Then straighten the legs towards the ceiling.
    • With knees and ankles glued together, you can do a circle in each direction. Then the knees stay glued and ankles circle outwards, you hit a straddle, and use your legs to lever yourself up to sitting.
    • End with whatever tf you want! Make this your own!
