Congratulations! You have your first hula hoop! Whether you made it yourself or purchased it, you are ready to start your hoop journey. Follow the tips below to keep your hoop in great condition!
- Avoid rough terrain – Smooth ground is your hoop’s best friend. Be careful using your hoop on pavement, gravel, or rough ground. It is inevitable that you will drop your hoop, and rough ground will only scratch your tape or tubing up and make you really sad.
- Be aware of the weather – Temperature can affect the tubing of your hoop.
- If it gets too warm, your hoop may warp. That’s okay! You can gently reshape the tubing. My favorite way to do that? Waist hoop as quickly as you can! Extra cardio is just a bonus!
- If your hoop gets too cold, your hoop is at a higher risk of breaking. This is especially true for polypro tubing. If it’s chilly outside, let your hoop warm up a bit before using, and avoid fast breaks. Trust me, I’ve broken my share of LED hoops!
- Uncoil your hoop – If you have a collapsible hoop, don’t keep it coiled up forever! Your hoop will warp if you keep it coiled down, so keep it open when you are not using it.
- Don’t be afraid to resize – As you get used to your hoop, it may start to feel a little slow and clunky. This is totally normal! I have a variety of hoops that I use for different things. Don’t be afraid to try a different size of tubing or diameter of hoop. Just remember that smaller/lighter hoops are generally faster and might be harder to waist hoop with! With time and practice, you will find your favorite type and size of hoop
So that’s it! You are ready to show your hoops some love!
